ARCHIMEDES OF SYRACUSE

Archimedes was born in 287 BC, in Syracuse and died in 212BC. His age was around 75 Yrs. He resided in Syracuse, SICILY. He worked in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Astronomy and Inventions. He is known for Archimedes Screw, Hydrostatics, Levers and infinitesimals. Archimedes was killed by Roman soldier during the siege of Syracuse.
Archimedes's mother's name is unknown but his father was Phidias who was an Astronomer. It is believed that Archimedes was a student of Euclid in Alexandria, Egypt before returning to his native place Syracuse. He proved that an object plunged in to liquid become lighter by an amount equal to the weight of the liquid it displaces. A famous story on this is that Archimedes made this discovery when he stepped into a bath tub, then celebrated by running through the streets shouting 'Eureka', which means"I have found it!". A machine invented by him for rising water is known as Archimedes's screw. History says that he developed numerous equipments to keep the Romans at bay for years during the siege of Syracuse.
